Mallisa Howard

Art teacher

My name is Mallisa Howard and I've lived in Fairview since 1992. I’m so excited to begin my first year as an art teacher!

Over the years, I have served the local public schools as a volunteer. I served the local bands, Cane Creek middle and ACR high school. Working on the band board for both schools.

I currently serve as a board member for North Carolina Destination Imagination, where I focus on the Fine Arts Program as the challenge master. I have served on the NCDI board since 2016. From beginning in the STEM based programs at FES (Odyssey and then DI) in 2010, I have coached 20 + teams over the course of  11 years, mostly Fine Arts. It has been an incredible experience watching students tap into their imaginations, work together, and create with purpose—and I can’t wait to bring that same energy into my own classroom.

God and family mean everything to me. My son began his first year teaching band for Buncombe County Schools this year for Erwin Middle, and my daughter is a student at UNC Charlotte, where she is seeking a degree in creativive writing and art. My husband and I also own our own Masonry business, CJ Stone. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my horses, chickens, and dogs, and staying active in our local community.

Teaching art is more than just a job for me— it's a calling. I genuinely love working with children and helping them grow into confident, expressive individuals. I’m honored to be starting this journey and can’t wait to inspire and learn alongside my students.
